Area 253 (formerly known as M-Space) is the first public-access glassblowing facility in Tacoma.

Area 253’s primary purpose is to provide a high-quality glassblowing facility to professional glassblowers. Every week, about 30 glassblowers rent Area 253’s hot shop on an hourly basis to create their own artwork. These artists come from as far away as Seattle, Camano Island, Bellingham, and Olympia, as well as from Tacoma, including young graduates of the Hilltop Artist-in-Residence program.

Area 253 holds classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced glassblowers, taught by glass professionals from around the country. More than 100 people, ranging from teens to seniors, have learned to blow glass at Area 253 since its opening. Glassblowing is our passion and we will do everything possible to make your experience last a life time. Whether you are a new glassblower, a novice or a seasoned artist we will be here to provide you with a quality experience and a well equipped hot shop. Stop by today!
